I discovered today that the right hand speaker doesn't work properly - it's very muted compared to the other one. I don't listen to the radio in the car that much anyway but I want to fix it.

The speaker is wired up correctly at the door end. I pull out the radio and try disconnecting leads - this confirms that there are no loose or crossed wires so I dunno.

I need to try swapping wires over to see if the problem moves to the other speaker (in which case its a wiring problem) or stays where it is (ie broken speaker). No time today though.

Replaced the nearside brake caliper today - relatively easy job (especially after the hassle I have had in fixing up a stupid metro). Wheel off, caliper off, swap brake pads, new caliper on, bleed brake and replace wheel - 25 minutes!

60 minute test drive confirms all is ok.

Also discovered that if I remove the radio and swap the speaker connections over, the problem stays with the same speaker. This confirms that the radio signal is ok. Then removed both speakers and swapped them over and the problem moved - ergo I have a duff speaker. A quick trip to the shops but they have none the right size in stock.

I decided to undertake a trip to another branch of Halfwits, em I mean Halfrauds... em... ach you know what I mean - to buy speakers. The staff in this branch gave new meaning to slow - a fossilised sloth would react quicker.

Anyhow, I buy the speakers, and install them - I am a bit fraught that I have to drill new holes in the door trims but I have to admit that the old speakers weren't installed that well anyway.

They sound fantastic!

After a day spent fixing a different car, I decide that a blatt in the TVR is required. All is well except for a vague exhaust blowing noise after about 10 miles. Investigation shows that the new cat replacement pipe (nearside) has come loose and one of the nuts has disappeared. I drive gingerly home and stick the car in the drive, till I can find new nuts (yes, on the way home, another one has fallen off)

A trip to the shops to buy new nuts and bolts, and then refix the exhaust. A 1 hour blatt shows all is well.

I also decided, for some daft reason, to give myself a headache by putting a guest book on the site. After driving me mental for hours, it finally works.
