It’s TVR Car Club Day! Time to extract the TVR from the garage.
Except that I have been waiting for a month for a weather window (dry, no salt) to do a 3-car shuffle. I need to drive the Porsche along to the farm, park it out of way, then extract the Chevy from the garage, and park that out of way, before I can extract TVR from garage. At this point I will remember that the TVR has a slow puncture, so I’d have to come home for the pump, go back in the Porsche, and park it out of the way as before.
Then I can pump up the TVR tyre, except it’s the rear driver side (the one against the wall) so I have to shuffle it over a bit till I can get my fat arse in, then extract the TVR and park that out of the way, so that I can put the Porsche in the garage, then the Chevy, then bring the TVR back here, then go back for the pump that I left in the garage. I need to wait for longer daylight hours as well, to fill all that in!
Anyway - net result is that I’m not going in the TVR. In fact, the weather is rubbish so I’m going to take the Range Rover, after picking up Jim the hitchhiker.
There is a new guy called Ed who has a V8S which he bought that year, and has now removed the body from the chassis by following an ace set of step-by-step instructions that he found on line. I told him that he would find us by looking for “the greasy bastards not wearing medallions” and when he arrives, he heads straight for me. I was only joking… or so I thought.
We are also joined by “radiator Phil” who has been conspicuously absent since Methuzelah was a boy. He also took his car to bits (well, when I say “he”, I’m pretty sure that me and Dave played a big part in it as well - it’s so long ago that I can’t really remember), but he hasn’t put it back together yet. So we have an enjoyable catch-up over our lunch, with various bits of advice on TVRs, diet, personal hygiene and holiday destinations (our hotel near Strontian) given freely and with extreme candour.
All too soon, it’s time to take Jim home.
No Dave today because he’s racing his toy cars.
No Hugh either, because he slept in and didn’t remember he was coming, until we were going.
I still need to get the TVR back to the house though, I have bits of work to do on it, including a service.
