Another TVR Car Club meeting - and this time, I'll be going in the TVR, fresh and untampered after its tour a couple of weeks ago.

The really exciting news, though, is that this will be my first chance to see Jim's new acquisition, a 35-year old 390 wedge.

Let's not kid ourselves, it isn't quite ready to win any prizes in a beauty contest. Before he bought it, it had been wrapped in Blue Peter sticky-back plastic, apparently by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles - it was full of wrinkles and bubbles. After his daughter had spent ages peeling it off with a hairdryer, it was obvious that the wrinkly crinkly wrap was a significant improvement over what lay underneath.

The important thing, though, is that the chassis, suspension and all the working bits have been done, just the guy ran out of money and enthusiasm before he got round to getting it painted.

But it's a bloody sound basis for a really good car, so the respray has been booked for next month, and in the meantime, there's a couple of wee jobs to do with the throttle sensor and idle speed, that shouldn't take long.

I think it's brilliant!
