It’s TVR Car Club Day!
Unfortunately, the TVR is along at the garage, and I haven’t had time to go for it - so I’m going in the Porsche, now that I have fixed the exhaust back on. It needs a run anyway - it hasn’t been out since March.
Dave’s not going, so I meet up with Jim at Maccy D’s - no pre-lunch happy meal today though (did I say that Dave’s not going?)
We set off in convoy (of two) and head over the Forth Bridge and up though Fife, before turning off along past Knockhill to the venue. It’s a lovely day, so it’s a pity I can’t go roofless - but on the right side, I won’t get sunburn either!
Ed from Fife is there - his S is still in bits all over the garage. Another couple arrive, and it turns out that he’s been in touch through this website, although this is his first meeting! Hugh is here today as well with his daughter so we barely miss whats-his-name. Oh, and the girl behind the bar remembers my name! How many years have we been coming here? This is the first indication of recognition I’ve had from anybody (no, the second…)!
Lunch conversation is the usual pish, entertaining, helpful, insulting, but enjoyable pish.
We finally leave to head home, after admiring all the cars that have turned up, and because Jim says he doesn’t know the route to anywhere, I end up leading again - and take a wrong turn as soon as I leave the drive, so our journey home is longer than I intended. We have plenty time though, and I don’t think Jim even noticed…

I have a wee TVR holiday weekend coming up in a couple of weeks.
I have a wee TVR with an MOT that expires this Friday.
Now children, can you see that there is a possible difficulty here? tvrgit can!
I have booked the car in for its test today, and have prepared it meticulously by throwing it in a barn since I came back from Burghley 7 weeks ago, and collecting it half an hour before the test appointment.
It passes! Of course it does... it might not look as good as some, but everything works (except the heater control sliders, I must get around to that one of these years).
That's 15 tests in the same garage with the same tester, who is normally as grumpy as you get, but he’s on a roll today - he's pissed off with people (in garages) plugging in diagnostic testers to send them off on the wrong course, and not using their brains. There are a few online forums with the same problem. We exchange various anecdotes on this subject while he puts the car through its test, which helps to pass the time.
The one thing I notice when it’s on the rollers, is a slight imbalance in the front brakes, one is more efficient than the other. It's within limits, so still a pass, but I think I'll have a look at that anyway, don't like cars that don't stop in straight lines!
I have a wee celebration blast-about afterwards, just because I can!
