It’s F-f-f-f-february! It’s f-f-f-f-frosty! It’s f-f-f-f-eckin’ salty. It’s f-f-f-f-freezing!
All of that is a lame excuse for being a wimp, and not going to the TVR meeting in a TVR. The other excuse is that I haven’t got the corrosion off the wheels since the last time I used it. So I’m a lazy wimp. I think I’m going to give up and get the wheels refurbished and powder-coated, so that I can be a non-original lazy wimp (but in a car with decent-looking wheels).
So we set off in Dave’s car, and after about 5 minutes I think the other 3 wish they were driving on their own, just to get some peace. I don’t get out much, that’s my excuse.
We reach the hotel, and don’t hang around outside in the cold for long, so go in to order the food. There’s one member of staff on, who spends his time moaning that he’s the only member of staff on, but gets through the orders eventually.
The best I can say about the hotel service is that they encourage people to chat and get to know each other while their meals are prepared. By the time the first plates appear, we’re all really good pals. Claire and Dave narrowly avoid becoming part of their dinner, when moany mike, who has now been promoted to serving duties, tips a couple of platefuls down the back of their chairs.
At least the food is half-decent, in portion size and quality. Even the carpet soaks it up hungrily. Prices have sneaked up noticeably over the past few months though. I had pork belly. Can’t remember what I had to eat though.
The chat is the usual varied pish - pistonheads forums (and the standard of advice / chat thereon), VAT, cats, jeepy things for use in snow, spray guns, spectacles (not as in “waiter making a spectacle of himself” but “things you wear cos you’re half-blind”), man-bags, rust, neighbours, and a million other unrelated topics, with one common theme - taking the piss out of each other.
Then it’s time for the journey home, and Jim and I remember that we need to be nice to Dave and hope he’s forgotten the last 3 hours, and gives us a lift.
